BUTTERFLY BOUCHER FINAL SHOWCASE GIG IN MELBOURNE

Butterfly Boucher has been back in town with her catchy tunes, hot off the back of touring with Missy Higgins. Her final showcase gig is taking place in Melbourne this weekend at the Toff In Town, alongside US singer-songwriter Katie Herzig. The show will be a great opportunity to see two charismatic and enchanting performers play for the final time before they head off again to work on more projects for your ears to get around!

SOUNDS OF SUBURBIA AT THE GOV THIS MONTH

‘A chance to find your new favourite band’. That’s what The Gov is offering live music fans at the end of August when they host Sounds of Suburbia; showcasing the best up and coming SA bands, the event will be taking place on The Gov’s main stage, as well as a special second acoustic stage. The bands have been carefully handpicked in order to offer something for everyone and are sure to get the positive vibes and love generating in the local music community!

PEGAZUS BRINGING METAL TO THE ESPY

Melodic metal music your thing? The Espy just might be the place you want to be at the end of August, with Pegazus bringing their compositions of strong riffs and anthemic tunes to the Gershwin Room. The band, having released four albums so far, has been based in Melbourne since the mid-90s. Check them out – having toured extensively through Europe, Pegazus have a great rock show format down!

THE RUBENS PLAYING THE GOV IN SEPTEMBER

Having played to a huge crowd at the Spin Off Festival in July, The Rubens are planning on bringing the same energy back through to the ‘intimate’ surrounds of The Gov in September. Embarking on an album tour which is to take the band all over the country, The Rubens have been winning more and more fans with each live show and it’d be no surprise to see the tickets for this tour go quickly! Nab them while you can!

THE MURLOCS LAUNCHING TEE PEE EP AT THE TOTE

Formed in late 2011, The Murlocs have quickly gained a good footing in the Melbourne music community and the respect of both peers and audiences alike. The band is preparing to release their second EP at the end of the month; recorded with Mikey Young (Eddy Current Suppression Ring), the EP represents some great washed out garage sounds.

THE PAPER KITES PERFORMING AT THE CORNER HOTEL IN NOVEMBER

After selling out two shows at the Northcote Social Club in July, The Paper Kites are set to work their magic again in Melbourne, when they play at The Corner in November! Joined by The Art of Sleeping and Battleships on their upcoming national tour, The Paper Kites will showcase their latest EP, Young North in venues all over the place – not a tour to be missed! Tickets are onsale from August 13.

PENNY HEWSON LAUNCHING IT’S AN ENDLESS DESIRE AT THE EMPRESS

Returning to her musical roots in Melbourne after spending a decade in Los Angeles, Penny Hewson has some new music to share. It’s An Endless Desire, Hewson’s second solo studio release, is a collection of haunting and reflective songs, described by Vulture Magazine as having ‘a wonderful sense of vulnerability’ within the songs’ layers. Hewson is launching the album at The Empress at the end of the month and will be featuring some special guests on the night!

THE RAAH PROJECT RE-LAUNCH SCORE AT THE PRINCE BANDROOM

Their performances at the Melbourne International Jazz Festival, MONA FOMA and at the Melbourne Recital Centre received huge amounts of acclaim and in August, The Raah Project will be bringing their 17-piece ensemble to the Prince Bandroom for another blistering set! The performance will celebrate the vinyl and remix download release of their album, Score.

For 23 year old hip-hop artist L-Fresh The LION, August 18 will mark his first ever headlining gig. Having spent the last nine years recording and performing all over Australia, L-Fresh will be showcasing his material at the Brighton Up Bar in Sydney. Backed by a four-piece band and a slew of awesome support acts including DJ MK-1 and Kween G, it’s sure to be a great night of beats and live music!

RED INK LAUNCHING EUPHORIA AT THE DING DONG LOUNGE

After an incredibly successful launch in Adelaide, Red Ink has Melbourne lined up for their next launch gig. Armed with a killer swag of new tunes, the band will be performing at the Ding Dong Lounge with The DieCasts and The Black Alleys providing some awesome support sets.

BENNY & THE FLY BY NITERS TAKE ON THE FLYING SAUCER CLUB

Benny and the Fly By Niters are Australia’s premier authentic Rhythm n Blues band and the Flying Saucer Club are going to be proudly hosting the six-piece later on this month! Led by Benny Peters, the band consists of roots music veterans who’ve gotten an excellent format down pat in producing that classic big band sound. The Fly By Niters will be joined by some special guest sax and piano players to amplify what is already going to be a huge sound so get onboard!

LAURA IMBRUGLIA & COURTNEY BARNETT PRESENT ‘YOU’RE LOOKIN AT COUNTRY’

Laura Imbruglia and Courtney Barnett, two local legends about Melbourne town, will be presenting a selection of their favourite country tracks at the Tote this September! This country revue has a twist though, with the girls exclusively singing songs by male country stars and welcoming male guests to take on songs originally performed be female artists.
